Installing hardwood floors is a great way to bring value and sophistication to any home in the area. As we move into 2017, some trends have started to emerge that are sure to stand the test of time. Here are a few favorites from our team at Floor Coverings International® of .

Light hardwood flooring in PlanoBlonde Wood and Stains

Blonde, or super-light colored, hardwoods are starting to take the place of the grey-toned flooring that has been popular for some time now. Hardwood species such as maple, white oak or beech lend themselves perfectly to this trend. Many woods can also be treated with a light stain to achieve the same aesthetic.

Light-colored hardwoods make a room feel modern, bright and spacious. They also help showcase a bold area rug or other furnishings and décor against a neutral background.

Multi-Width Planks and Patterns

Many Plano homeowners prefer hardwood flooring for its rustic appeal. Multi-width planks are a popular way to bring casual country charm to any home and showcase the natural beauty of wood. Species with prominent grain, such as hickory or pine, are good options for multi-width installation. The grain is prominently displayed in the wide planks, but it’s not overbearing with the incorporation of narrow planks in between.

Parquet hardwood flooring has also been making a comeback in recent years. Many homeowners will remember the classic “basket weave” pattern of parquet flooring’s past, but other patterns such as herringbone or chevron are a great way to add some sophistication to the style and bring this look into 2017.

Hand-scraped hardwood flooring in PlanoHand-Scraped and Distressed Hardwood

Following the rustic trend, there are many treatments that can bring this country look home. Hand-scraped hardwood flooring can be done by hand or machine, but either approach delivers the “scraped” look that was once common with hardwood floors. Distressed hardwood flooring is a similar style typically done by wire brush versus a scraping tool.

New flooring is available in distressed treatments. Reclaimed flooring is also a great way to get this look and use recycled materials.
