Preparing your home for the holidays in Plano, TXThe holidays are almost here, and that often means a steady stream of guests. If you plan on hosting overnight company this season, here are some great tips to help you ensure a comfortable stay for all.

Organize Common Rooms

Adding additional bodies to a house can make once comfortable rooms feel cramped and cluttered. Guests will bring their own belongings with them, and you need space for everyone to lounge around the fire…or the football game, as the case may be.

In rooms that will be heavily used, such as a family room or kitchen, remove any clutter or kick-knacks that might get in the way. While décor does make a house feel like a home, too much can be overbearing. And it’s easy to loose items when the counters and shelves are filled with the family’s clutter. Clean off the surfaces and make sure the coat closets can accommodate the extra outerwear. Organizing now will also make the post-holiday cleanup much simpler come January.

Designate Guest Space

When guests stay in your home, it’s important for them to feel like they have a private space of their own. This is easy if you have a guest room and bathroom. Simply add some thoughtful touches, such a special soap or reading material. If you’re sharing sleeping space and bathrooms, make sure guests have their own shelf, drawer or closet to help them settle in.

Dress Up the Entryway

Your entryway is the first impression guests will have of your house, and if this area is warm and inviting, they’ll feel right at home. Consider the lighting, floor coverings and wall hangings in this space. You want it to reflect your personality, but also provide plenty of space for guests to drop their coats and shoes. Consider adding a chest of drawers or a bench for added storage and a holiday area rug for a seasonal touch that will also protect your floors from the added foot traffic.
