Busy families in the Plano area need flooring that will look great with little cleaning and maintenance. Our team at Floor Coverings International Plano has selected their top picks for low maintenance flooring.

Ceramic tile has a variety of benefits. Ceramic is glazed with a protective layer that makes it impervious to moisture and stain penetration. It delivers a super tough surface that is difficult to chip or crack. It is easy to clean with a quick vacuuming or damp mop. Finally, it’s very affordable and available in a wide variety of colors and patterns.

Engineered Hardwood Flooring

Engineered hardwood flooring has the look of solid hardwoods with the benefits of a manufactured product. Because the sub layers of engineered boards are made with composite materials, it is more resistant to moisture and changes in humidity. It is easy to keep clean with regular sweeping and the occasional damp mop, and the resale value makes the effort well worth the investment!

linoleum flooring in planoLinoleum or Vinyl

While these two products share many benefits and a similar style, they are in fact very different. Linoleum is an eco-friendly product made from linseed oil and other natural materials. Vinyl is a synthetic material made from PVC. Both flooring options, however, are resilient and easy to maintain. Vinyl floors require little more than a quick sweep and mop with water or a cleaning product. Linoleum is more sensitive to abrasive cleaners, but cleans up nicely with a manufacturer recommended product.

Consider the Finishes

Even flooring options that are considered high maintenance, such as natural stone tiles, can be easy to take care of if installed and sealed properly. A porous stone such as travertine or marble will be resistant to stains and other damage if sealed from the beginning and again every couple of years. Also, select a high quality grout in a dark color so grout lines don’t reveal stains and dirt.

The color and finish of flooring will also impact its maintenance. A white carpet, for instance, is much more difficult to maintain than a darker surface. Shiny surfaces also reveal flaws more readily that matte finishes.
